The Republicans Are Back And Still Divided

While watching the news today, I noticed all the praise that was being given to the Republican Party over their three victories in Virginia, New Jersey, and Maine. Now Maine may have been a victory however Virginia and New Jersey were simply handouts. Seriously, the Democrats handed over those two states because they put up such poor campaigns against the Republican opponents.

I must say however that this day revealed the weakness of the Republican Party. First of all, the Republican Party lost District 23 in New York which hasn’t voted for anyone other than a republican since before the Civil War, and they lost a congressional seat in California that was a practical handout. Not only did they lose these two seats, the republican nominee from New York’s 23rd district had to withdraw well before the election because of the conservative right.

To drive the point home further, the supporters of the republican nominee gave their support to the Democrat. What else needs to happen to make Republicans realize that they need to modernize themselves or else they are going to fall apart? The scare tactics used in Maine to scare people into banning gay marriage will only work for so long. The way that the Republican Party is so divided over social issues is rather pathetic. At least Democrats can unite on that front while still holding different personal views.

Anyway, what I truly found hilarious about this entire situation was that the so-called liberal media was all proud of the Republican Party for winning three elections, in three different states while ignoring everything that happened in New York’s District 23 and California. For a party that is supposedly coming back to power in 2010, they seem to have a long way to go until they agree on what defines them as even a political party, let alone a possible contender for 2010 and 2012 after that.
